Religious Education

Our School Vision

‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’

Matthew 22:36-40 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbour as yourself.”

At Holy Triinity, Religious Education is rooted in respect, community, and responsibility, encouraging pupils to love their neighbour as themselves. We follow Understanding Christianity to develop a secure understanding of the Christian faith, alongside the study of Judaism, Islam, and Hinduism. Learning is explored through theological, social science, and philosophical approaches, with thematic units that are revisited and built upon across year groups.

Each Understanding Christianity unit incorporates three key elements: Making sense of the text, where pupils develop skills of reading, interpretation, and understanding how Christians use Biblical texts; Understanding the impact, which explores how beliefs are put into action within the Christian community and the wider world; and Making connections, where pupils reflect on and evaluate links between religious ideas, their own lives, and their understanding of the world. Case studies are used to introduce learning, supporting pupils to explore different perspectives and develop their own world views. Pupils are encouraged to hold balanced and informed conversations, growing as respectful global neighbours and courageous advocates.

Parental Rights

Parents and carers have a statutory right, under the Education Act 1996 (Section 71), to withdraw their child from Religious Education and/or Collective Worship. If you do not wish your child to participate, you may request their withdrawal by submitting a written request to the Headteacher. We encourage parents and carers to discuss their decision with the Headteacher in the first instance so that we can fully understand your wishes and make appropriate arrangements.
